Additional information

The substance is officially classified as chronic cat.2 and R51/53 according to table 3.1 and 3.2 of Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. This Annex VI entry is a group entry for all monoalkaly or monoaryl or monoalkylaryl esters of acrylic acid. Test data with long-chained acrylates however clearly demonstrate that the substance has not to be classified with regard to environment. Nevertheless, due to the official Annex VI entry the respective PNECS were deduced and an environmental risk assessment is done for completeness sake.

Conclusion on classification

Based on the available study data on acute aquatic toxicity and data on chronic toxicity of the read across substance Acrylate 22 45% (Behenylacrylate) has not to be classified and labelled according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP/GHS).

Nevertheless, for the group of substances (monoalkyl or monoaryl or monoalkyaryl esters of acrylic acid) an entry in Table 3.1 and 3.2 of Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 exists which will be adopted for safety reasons. Thus, the substance is classified as N (Dangerous for the environment), R51/53 (Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment ), according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and as Aquatic Chronic cat. 2 ( H411: Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.), according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (GHS/CLP).
