Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
2011-05-23
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
no guideline available
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Determination of the coldness stability of the test substance was performed with kryomat

Although the presented study does not measure the freezing point of tert- Butylperoxyneodecanoat (TBPND), it can still give a direction to a foreseen freezing temperature or range. The presented study examined the stability of TBPND to coldness. The study was performed as described in the section "Any other information on material and methods" using Kryomat GFL. The results showed that TBPND is stable at a tempertaure of -25 °C, no changes in appearance and form (cristallization) were observed, meaning that the expected freezing point would be below -25 °C. Based on this result a performance of a freezing point measurement study was waived as according to column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.1, determination of melting point / freezing point does not need to be conducted if the freezing point is expected to be lower than -20 °C.

Description of key information

The melting / freezing point study was waived according to column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.1 as the freezing point of tert-Butylperoxyneodecanoate (TBPND) is expected to be lower than -20°C. This temperature evaluation was based on a study that examined the stability of TBPND to coldness, showing no crystallization (stability) at -25°C, therefore an expected freezing temperature below -25°C.
