Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (sensitising)
Additional information:

In the IPCS CICAD Document it is cited that in a guinea-pig maximisation test comparable to OECD 406, skin sensitization was observed in 5 out of 20 animals.

In the BUA report, an OECD sensitization test in guinea pigs on 4 -nitrophenol is reviewed. The test was performed according to the method of Magnusson & Kligman and results revealed that 4 -nitrophenol had a mildly sensitizing effect. According to the study report, 25% of the animals tested showed a positive reaction.

Based on the results of these studies it can not be excluded that 4 -nitrophenol has skin sensitizing effects.

Additional information:

Based on the results of the studies and taking into account the provisions laid down in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP (1272/2008/EC), a skin sensitizing effect of PNF cannot be excluded.
