Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Short term toxicity tests have been performed on disodium hexafluorosilicate. Toxicity to fish, algae and microorganism has been determined. However, there are no available data on long term toxicity to the aquatic environment. Due to the presence of hydrolysable groups on its chemical structure, fluorosilicate anions are not expected to remain in solution long under environmental conditions. Instead, fluoride anions will be formed. Thus, the performance of such tests is unjustified, since there are reliable studies on sodium fluoride or hydrogen fluoride. Read-across to sodium fluoride is appropriate.

Short-term toxicity to fish

Disodium hexafluorosilicate shows a 96 h-LC50 on Dario rerio of 37.5 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Disodium hexafluorosilicate shows a 48 h-LC50 on Daphnia magna of 35.4 mg/L.

Toxicity to algae

Disodium hexafluorosilicate shows a 48 h-LC50 on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata of 18 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to fish

Sodium fluoride shows a 21 day LC5 onOncorhynchus mykissof 4 mg/L. This value is considered as NOEC for mortality.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Sodium fluoride shows a 21 day NOEC on Daphnia magna of of 3.7 and 14.1 mg/L.
