Sodium borohydride rapidly hydrolyzes in water to form sodium borate/boric acid and hydrogen gas with a half-lives ranging from seconds to minutes at environmentally relevant pHs. Sodium borohydride is an inorganic compound for which biodegradation testing is not applicable.

The data bioaccumulation for sodium borohydride is waived in accordance with REACH Annex XI, the study is not technically feasible because the test substance hydrolyzes rapidly in water. For inorganic chemicals, estimates of bioaccumulation potential are not reliably predicted by octanol/water partitioning data.
