First-aid measures

Inhalation:Move to fresh air. When symptoms persist or in all cases of doubt seek medical advice. Give artificial respiration if breathing has stopped.

Skin contact:In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing. Immediate medical attention is required. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Do not take clothing home to be laundered.

Eye contact:Immediately flush eye(s) with plenty of water. Immediate medical attention is required.

Ingestion:IMMEDIATELY see a physician. If swallowed, induce vomiting immediately, as directed by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Notes to physician:MATERIAL IS CORROSIVE. It may not be advisable to induce vomiting. Possible mucosal damage may contraindicate the use of gastric lavage. Measures against circulatory shock and convulsions maybe necessary.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:Dry chemical
Limestone powder, Dry sand, Dry sodium carbonate

Unsuitable extinguishing media:Water, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Specific hazards during fire fighting:Material as sold is combustible; burns vigorously with intense heat. Heated material can form flammable or explosive vapors with air.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Further information:DO NOT use water to cool containers.
Contain run-off.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:
Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Remain upwind. Use personal protective equipment.
MATERIAL IS CORROSIVE. If exposed to material during clean-up operations, IMMEDIATELY remove all contaminated clothing and wash exposed skin areas with soap and water. Avoid dust formation. Remove all sources of ignition. Avoid breathing dust. Wear respiratory protection.

Environmental precautions
CAUTION: Keep spills and cleaning runoff out of municipal sewers and open bodies of water.

Methods for cleaning up
Shovel into suitable container for disposal. No sparking tools should be used. Store in a receptacle equipped with a vent.

Handling and storage

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Wear suitable protective equipment. Avoid contact with water. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Wash thoroughly after handling. Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep container tightly closed.

Storage conditions:Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Do not store this material in containers made of the following: glass Aluminium
Storage temperature:< 60 °C

Further information:
This product can liberate flammable hydrogen gas upon contact with acids, oxidizing agents, water, and transition metal salts. Moisture can cause the product to decompose and slowly liberate hydrogen, which can accumulate in the headspace of the storage container. Drums should be ventilated by loosening the top bung prior to opening.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure limits: TWA = 0.4 mg/m3; STEL = 0.8 mg/m3.

Exposure controls:
Eye protection:Chemical goggles and face shield.
Hand protection:Chemical-resistant gloves should be worn whenever this material is handled. butyl-rubber Gloves should be removed and replaced immediately if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough. Rinse and remove gloves immediately after use. Wash hands with soap and water.
Skin and body protection:impervious clothing Chemical resistant apron Work clothing should be removed at the end of the shift and laundered by the employer.
Respiratory protection:A respiratory protection program must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator's use. Air-purifying respirators should be equipped with NIOSH approved (or equivalent) organic vapor and acid gas cartridges, and N95 filters. If oil mist is present, use R95 or P95 filters.
Protective measures:Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Electrically bond and ground all containers and equipment before transfer or use of material. Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove closure carefully to relieve possible internal pressure. Keep away from food and drink. No sparking tools should be used. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Engineering measures: Use explosion-proof local exhaust ventilation with a minimum capture velocity of 150 ft/min (0.75 m/sec) at the point of dust or mist evolution. Refer to the current edition of Industrial Ventilation: A Manual of Recommended Practice published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists for information on the design, installation, use, and maintenance of exhaust systems.

Stability and reactivity

Hazardous reactions: None known, Stable.
Materials to avoid: water, acids, metals: aluminium, copper, zinc.
Hazardous decompositionproducts: Hydrogen gas.
Polymerization: Product will not undergo polymerization.

Disposal considerations

Environmental precautions:CAUTION: Keep spills and cleaning runoff out of municipal sewers and open bodies of water.

Disposal: For disposal, incinerate this material at a facility that complies with local, state, and federal regulations. The above recommendation covers disposal of material as supplied.

Contaminated packaging:CONTAINERS HAZARDOUS WHEN EMPTY. Dusts may exist in empty containers of this material which could ignite and explode if in contact with a source of ignition. Follow all MSDS and label warnings even after container is emptied.
