Description of key information

No boiling point was observed for most of the substances in the category Rosin adduct esters up to the temperatures reported  (up to 300°C). No decomposition was observed up to 300°C.

Resins may discolour to dark brown when heated above 150°C.  This phenomenon is not the consequence of mass decomposition of the substance.  Rather, hydroperoxydes (oxidized resin acids) develop during ambient storage upon exposure to air and the heating of those hydroperoxides causes their decomposition: this forms high extinction coefficient  chromophores (hydroperoxyde cleavage) in small concentrations.

Any heating to elevated temperatures should occur under inert gas conditions to prevent darkening of the product.

A GLP-compliant study, conducted according to EU Method A.2 (Siwoloboff), was provided for Resin acids and Rosin acids, fumarated, esters with pentaerythritol (Chilworth Technology, 2010a).
