Description of key information

Two separate TGD-approved handbooks agree that the substance could be sufficiently volatile at -6 to -9°C to create an ignitable mixture in air.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Information regarding flashpoint of MEK was sourced from two separate handbooks. Merck Index: An Encyclopedia of Chemicals, Drugs, and Biologicals (14th Edition) and CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed), which are known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability report that the substance has a flash point of -6°C (closed-cup method), and -9°C, respectively. These values are above the melting point of -86°C, but below the boiling point of 79.6°C, suggesting that the substance could be sufficiently volatile at -6 to -9°C to create an ignitable mixture in air.
