Description of key information

Monopropylene glycol undergoes reactions with hydroxyl radicals in water. The half life of monopropylene glycol due to this reaction, based on an OH radical concentration of 10E-17 mol/litre is 2.3 years. The overall rate constant is 0.94x10E9 litre/molecule.sec.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The calculated half life of monopropylene glycol in water is 2.3 years with an OH radical concentration of 10-17 mol/litre (Anbar, 1967). The indirect photolysis of monopropylene glycol by photochemically-produced hydroxy radicals is slow in water.
