Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
1 150 L/kg ww

Additional information

The BCF in fish of 1149 (sheepshead minnow: Cyprinodon variegatus) is a value normalised to a 5% lipid level (Lampi and Parkerton 2009). The original value is 2229 (related to a lipid content of 9.7%). This investigation of Jonsson et al. (2004), similar to OECD 305 (flow-through), is the only one for phenanthrene to be given the ranking of reliability 1 by EU (2008, Tab. 3.28) and by Lampi and Parkerton (2009).

This suggests that the BCF of phenanthrene should be below 2000.
