The adverse effect was reversible.
Executive summary:

OECD (2004) evaluated that there one study on human skin contact with synthetic amorphous silica. More than 200 workers were in conctact with amorphous silica. This resulted to skin dryness which was a reversible effect and was able to be controlled by regular use of skin-protection ointment..
