Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: The Registration for REACH of Natural Complex Substances used as Fragrance Ingredients by EFFA/EFEO
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
CINNAMON BARK OIL is a mixture of substances and transition from liquid to solid will not be sharp. The „Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance” from ECHA mentions in chapter R7.1.2.3, that «Melting points are not normally carried out for mixtures ». Therefore it is recommended in the EFFA/EFEO guideline „The Registration for REACH of Natural Complex Substances used as Fragrance Ingredients” to describe the state of the an essential oil after two days at +5°C and -20 °C rather than determining a transition temperature.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Visual inspection

- Physical state: liquid

Results and discussion

Melting / freezing point
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -24 °C

Any other information on results incl. tables

Cinnamon bark oil is a yellow mobile liquid at 20ºC and a yellow slightly viscous liquid after 2 days at -24ºC.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The melting point of cinnamon bark oil is < -24ºC.
Executive summary:

The melting point of cinnamon bark oil was investigated according to the methodology proposed by the EFFA/EFEO guideline „The Registration for REACH of Natural Complex Substances used as Fragrance Ingredients”. By visual observation it was found that

Cinnamon bark oil is a yellow mobile liquid at 20ºC and a yellow slightly viscous liquid after 2 days at -24ºC. Therefore, it was concluded that the melting point of cinnamon bark oil is < -24ºC.
