Biodegradation in water and sediment: simulation tests
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- biodegradation in water: simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water
- Type of information:
- experimental study planned
- Study period:
- 2019
- Justification for type of information:
- From a prolonged ready biodegradability study (OECD 301D) and an inherent biodegradability study (OECD 302B) it was seen that the substance is neither readily nor inherently biodegradable. From hydrolysis studies it is known that the substance is rather stable in water.
The registered substance is a UVCB, but its water solubility limit ranges from 1.2 to 19.6 mg/L and the average log Koc value is 1.9. These properties show that the substance exists in the water phase and does not have a high tendency to adsorb to suspended matter or sediment.
Therefore, an OECD TG 309: Aerobic Mineralisation in Surface Water - Simulation Biodegradation Test is proposed in order to refine the persistence assessment for this substance. For the purpose of REACH, the ‘pelagic test’ using natural surface water containing between 10 and 20 mgdw/L SPM is proposed.
