Long-term toxicity data for three different groups of soil organisms of major ecological importance (plants, invertebrates and microorganisms) are available for Atmer 163 (CAS No. 97925-95-6). They are covering different ecological processes (e.g. primary production, breakdown of organic matter and re-cycling of nutrients) and all relevant soil exposure pathways (e.g. via pore water, ingestion of particles and soil air) for an effective assessment of the substance in soils. Terrestrial plants turned out to be the most sensitive species. The reproductive parameters fresh/dry weight of fruits (Brassica rapa) and number of flowers (Avena sativa) were found to be the most sensitive endpoints with NOEC values of 50 mg/kg soil dw (32 d) and < 25 mg/kg soil dw (61 d), respectively. Since no NOEC could be derived for B. rapa, the EC10 (61 d) of 2.5 mg/kg soil dw was used instead for the Chemical Safety Assessment and derivation of the PNEC soil.

Moreover, Atmer 163 affects the reproduction of Eisenia fetida (OECD 222). A NOEC (56 d) of 125 mg/kg soil dw was derived. No effects on the nitrogen transformation of soil microorganisms were recorded in a study according to OECD 216 after 28 d (NOEC≥1000 mg/kg soil dw).

Further studies investigating the effects on terrestrial organisms are not available and are not considered to be necessary. All relevant exposure routes are covered by the available studies. Moreover, the environmental exposure assessment performed according to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, section 3 did not result in any risk for the terrestrial compartment using the PNEC soil based on the available data (Risk Characterisation Ratio < 1).
