Reactive Groups
The appraisal of the molecular structure indicates no risk of rapid decomposition. MTDID 8191 does not contain any of the structural features mentioned in the UN Recommendations. The occurrence of other chemical groups associated with explosive properties as described in the literature[1]was also considered. No such groups were present.
Oxygen Balance
The oxygen balance is not used for the evaluation of the explosive properties of this formulation.It is difficult to calculate for a mixture of several compounds and in the present case the evaluation as based on "reactive groups" and "calorimetric tests" is fully reliable even without oxygen balance data.
Calorimetric Tests
The exothermic decomposition energy was determined using Differential Scanning Calorimetry in a closed, gold plated high pressure vessel (DSC). The result is shown in the attached Figure1 (SEE ATT 1). The calorimetric test is of special importance for the evaluation of compounds containing chemical groups associated with explosive properties. The total decomposition energy delta-HDec determined between room temperature and 500 °C ) was found to be about 194 J/g thus being far below the limit in Annex VII, column 2, of 500 J/g. The onset point of the first exothermic peak (with an energy release of about 12 J/g) was at about 38 °C.

relevant for this substance as the test item is a mixture of several compounds.
Thus it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt, that MTDID 8191 is not a potential explosive and does
not have a potential for rapid energy release. Nevertheless, this judgment is in respect to classification; it
does not necessarily mean that any processing hazards can be discounted. - Executive summary:
