Water solubility:
62.9 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
2.2
Details on results:
In preliminary tests, the solubility of the test item was in the range of 50-100 g/L. The solubility of the test item at 20 °C was determined to be 62.9 g/L at pH 2.2.

Table 1. Solubility results at 20 °C for succinic acid

Sample  Concentration of succinic acid (g/L) pH
 24 hours 63.9     2.2
 48 hours  61.8     2.2
 72 hours  63.1     2.2
 Mean (48 - 72 hours)  62.9     2.2
 Deviation  1.064  0.00
 CV (%)  1.691 0.00
Conclusions:
Interpretation of results: very soluble (> 10000 mg/L)
Succinic anhydride is soluble in water and unstable in aqueous media, rapidly hydrolyzing to form succinic acid. Succinic acid is very soluble in water with a reported value of 62.9 g/L.
Executive summary:

In a non-GLP study according to OECD 105 the water solubility of succinic acid, the hydrolysis product of succinic anhydride, was determined using the flask method at 20 ± 0.5 °C and pre-incubation at 30 °C. All relevant validity criteria were fulfilled. The analytical method for determination of the test item, succinic acid, was validated and tested with satisfactory results in regard to linearity, accuracy, precision and specificity. The water solubility of succinic acid was reported as 62.9 g/L at 20 °C and pH 2.2. Succinic anhydride has been described as insoluble or very slightly soluble in water and is inherently unstable in aqueous media, rapidly hydrolyzing to form succinic acid.
