Description of key information
There are no experimental data available for the test item. Therefore, a read-across approach is applied. The following EC50 values were obtained for short-term toxicity to daphnia for the respective source substance:

No experimental data on short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is available for the test item. However, experimental data for three source substances is available and a read-across approach is applied. Please refer to read-across justification document attached in IUCLID Section 13. LAS TEA (CAS 121617 -08 -1)
The acute toxicity of Benzenesulfonic acid, C10-13-alkyl derivs., compds. with triethanolamine (CAS-no. 68411-31-4), tested as MARLOPON AT 50, to the fresh-water crustacean Daphnia magna was determined as decribed in the EU method 84/449/EEC Part C.2 (Nov. 1989) and according to Good Laboratory Practice.
The test was carried out with 4 x 5 daphnids for each concentration, and the test solutions were not replaced. The exposure duration was 48 hours. The nominal concentrations tested were 0, 9, 15, 28, 50 and 90 mg MARLOPON AT 50/L. MARLOPON AT 50 contained 56.2% Benzenesulfonic acid, C10-13-alkyl derivs., compds. with triethanolamine (CAS-no. 68411-31-4) and results were based on concentrations of CAS-no. 68411-31-4. The 48 h EC50 value based on mobility was 10.6 mg Benzenesulfonic acid, C10-13-alkyl derivs., compds. with triethanolamine (CAS-no. 68411-31-4)/L, the 24 h EC50 was 11.4 mg Benzenesulfonic acid, C10-13-alkyl derivs., compds. with triethanolamine (CAS-no. 68411-31-4)/L with 95% CL of 9.1 to 14.4 mg/L. This toxicity study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirement for the EU method C.2 (acute toxicity for Daphnia).
In a 48 h acute toxicity study, Daphnia magna were exposed to Linear alkyl benzene sulfonate (LAS ex Petresa) at nominal concentrations of 0 (Control), 3.2, 5.6, 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L under static condition, based on the sample as received. The sample was 12.1% active ingredient, and results were adjusted to the active ingredient basis. The 48 h EC50 value based on mobility was 2.9 mg a.i./L with 95% CL of 2.5 to 3.5 mg/L. This toxicity study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirement for the current OECD 202 Daphnia acute toxicity study
LAS NA (CAS 68411 -30 -3)
The toxicity of high molecular weight LAS, individual LAS homologues, and nonlinear LAS components (DTIS) was measured in a series of aquatic toxicity tests with Daphnia magna. Results show that biodegradation of LAS influences the toxicity, with the remaining LAS becoming less toxic. The 48 -hour LC50 of high molecular weight LAS to Daphnia magna is 2.4 mg/L.
DEA (CAS 111 -42 -2)
An acute immobilisation study performed with Ceriodaphnia dubia was conducted. The study followed ASTM Standard E729-80 and was performed as a static test without analytical verification of the test concentrations. The study was performed at two temperatures and with three independent runs. At 24 °C the animals showed a statistically significant higher sensitivity than at 20 °C. At 24 °C, the 48-h EC50 was 30.1 mg/L (95% CL: 22.2-39.1 mg/L), while the EC50 was 98.9 mg/L 95% CL: 81.0 -124.2 mg/L) at the lower temperature.
