Description of key information

The surface tension of a 1.0g/L aqueous solution of the test item Basic Blue 99 was determined at 20 deg C to be 59.5 mN/m (standard deviation +/-0.05 mN/m). The study was performed according to OECD guideline 105 and EU method A.5 with the OECD harmonised ring method. The determination was carried out with a tensiometer in ten successive measurements. Considering that distilled water has a surface tension of 72.75 mN/m at 20 deg C and the test item showed a surface tension below 60 mN/m under the conditions employed in the method the test item should be regarded as being a surface active material.
