Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2008-12-05
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
, EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992

no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Preliminary test:

During the application of flame (2 minutes) to one end of the pile no ignition and therefore no spreading of fire was observed. Also after removing the flame after 2 minutes no propagation of combustion was ascertained. Because of the test results execution of the main test was not necessary and the test item was assessed to be not highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The sample is not highly flammable according to the definition in the EEC directive 92/69/EEC, method A.1 0.
Executive summary:

During the application of flame (2 minutes) to one end of the pile no ignition and therefore no spreading of fire was observed. Also after removing the flame after 2 minutes no propagation of combustion was ascertained. Because of the test results of the preliminary study execution of the main test was not necessary and the test item was assessed to be not highly flammable. Therefore the sample is not highly flammable according to the definition in the EEC directive 92/69/EEC, method A.1 0.

Description of key information

The sample is not highly flammable according to the definition in the EEC-directive 92/69/EEC, method A.1 0.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Results:

Drying loss

At a test temperature of 70°C and running until constant weight, the dry loss was 0.11 mass %.

Preliminary test

About 30 g of the test item were used to form the test pile (excess substance included).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results of the flammability test (not flammable), the test item tin sulfide is not classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
