Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Justification for type of information:
REPORTING FORMAT FOR THE ANALOGUE APPROACH

1. HYPOTHESIS FOR THE ANALOGUE APPROACH
Both the source and the target substance have Sn2+ as constituent.

2. SOURCE AND TARGET CHEMICAL(S) (INCLUDING INFORMATION ON PURITY AND IMPURITIES)
Purity not relevant since no info is available. Hence, 100 % purity assumed.

3. ANALOGUE APPROACH JUSTIFICATION
SnCl2 and SnS have Sn2+ ions in solution.

4. DATA MATRIX
not relevant since no toxic properties are relevant.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
-2.47
Remarks on result:
other: no info on pH and temperature
Conclusions:
log Pow: -2.47
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is inorganic

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex VII section 7.8, the study is not required since tin sulfide is inorganic. Literature data report an LogPow of -2.47 for SnCl2. This information is considered relevant for SnS as well. The results indicate that bioaccumulation is not a concern for the registered substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-2.47
