Surface tension
Key result
Surface tension:
72.1 mN/m
Temp.:
20.2 °C
Conc.:

Remarks on result:
other: corrected with a calibration factor 1.0218

Any other information on results incl. tables

The calibration data in water allowed to determine the calibration factor. Since the nominal surface tension is 72.75 mN/m and the determined surface tension is 71.2, the calibration factor is 1.0218.

The test was performed twice at a temperature of 20.2 °C (test 1) and 20.2 °C (test 2):

Test no. number surface tension (measured) (mN/m)
1 1 70.3
2 70.3
3 70.2
4 70.2
5 70.2
mean 70.2
2 1 71.0
2 71.0
3 71.0
4 71.0
5 70.9
mean 71.0

The measured surface tension was corrected with a calibration factor of 1.0218. This results in following determinations:

Test no. mean surface tension (measured) (mN/m) corrected mean surface tension (mN/m)
1 70.2 71.7
2 71.0 72.5
Mean 70.6 72.1

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 1 g/L dilution of test item in water was determined to be 72.1 mN/m at 20.2 °C. As a result, the substance is not surface active.
Executive summary:

The aim of the study was the determination of the surface tension of the test item in water at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C according to EC method A.5 and OECD 115 using ring method. The test was performed twice.

The surface tension of a 1 g/L dilution of test item in water was determined to be 72.1 mN/m at 20.2 °C. The substance is hence not surface active.
