140 °C, 100 mm cube sample:

The temperature in the centre of the sample did not exceed the oven temperature within a storage time of 48 hours.

Since the temperature increase is below the threshold of 60 °C within 24 hours the result of the test is negative.

Due to the negative result in the 100 mm cube sample at an oven temperature of 140 °C further tests do not have to be performed.

Conclusions:
The Bowes-Cameron-Cage test in the 1 L wire basket at 140 °C showed no self-heating of the test item within 24 hours. Due to this result further tests were not necessary.

Executive summary:

In the Grewer oven the test item showed a self-ignition temperature of 170 °C. Following this screening test an additional test has been performed to investigate the self-heating properties of the substance. This was done according to UN Test N.4 by Bowes-Cameron-Cage Test.

The Bowes-Cameron-Cage test in the 1 L wire basket at 140 °C showed no self-heating of the test item within 24 hours. Due to this result further tests were not necessary.

According to the results of the test on the self-heating in the Bowes-Cameron-Cage Test (UN-Test N.4) the test item is classified as follows:

An exothermic effect was detected starting at 170 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of 600 °C. After the measurement a black residue remained in the basket. It can be concluded that in the screening test, the on-set temperature for self-ignition is 170°C.

For a Grewer oven, no classification is recommended if the on-set temperature for self-ignition is > 220 °C (which is 80 °K above the reference temperature of 140°C). Since the on-set temperature (170°C) was below this cut-off value, the substance should be considered as self-heating substance.

Conclusions:
A screening test using a Grewer oven was performed. The on-set temperature of self-ignition started at 170 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of 600 °C.
Executive summary:

The objective of this study was the screen for the relative self-ignition temperature of the test item according to VDI 2263, sheet 1 and UN Class 4, Division 4.2. The test item was heated in a Grewer-oven.The on-set temperature for self-ignition was observed at 170 °C, which leaded to a maximum temperature of 600 °C. For a Grewer oven, no classification is recommended if the on-set temperature for self-heating is > 220 °C (which is 80 °K above the reference temperature of 140°C).

Since the on-set temperature (170°C) was below this cut-off value, further testing to conclude on the presence or absence of self-heating properties of the the substance were performed. Reference is made to the key study reported under endpoint 'Flammability'.
