PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT assessment for sodium 4-chloro-3-methylphenolate (CAS 15733-22-9) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).

Persistency

Sodium 4-chloro-3-methylphenolate (CAS 15733-22-9) is readily biodegradable. A degradation rate of 83% (DOC removal) was determined in a study according to EU method C.4-B. Thus, the substance is considered to be not P and vP.

Bioaccumulation

In accordance with the guidance document R.11 (ECHA, 2017) the bioaccumulation potential of sodium 4-chloro-3-methylphenolate (CAS 15733-22-9) was not assessed since the substance does not meet the criteria for P and vP.

Toxicity

In accordance with the guidance document R.11 (ECHA, 2017) no T-assessment of sodium 4-chloro-3-methylphenolate (CAS 15733-22-9) was performed since the substance is readily biodegradable and has a log Kow of 2.73.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the substance is not PBT/vPvB.
