Description of key information

The water solubility of vinylcyclohexane is 15 mg/L. Hydrolysis is not relevant to vinylcyclohexane due to the lack of hydrolysable functional groups within the molecule. Furthermore, vinylcyclohexane is not readily biodegradable under the test conditions of OECD guideline 301 F. However, the substance will dissipate from the aqueous phase through volatilization (vapour pressure of 1940 Pa at 20 °C). The EPISuiteTM estimated half-lives for volatilisation from rivers and lakes are 1.076 hours and 99.76 hours (4.157 days), respectively (see PBT assessment report in IUCLID section 13). The Henry Law Constant for vinylcyclohexane is 0.141 atm × m³/mol (corresponding to 1.425 E+04 Pa x m³/mol; calculated from vapour pressure/water solubility).

In air, vinylcyclohexane is not persistent: the hydroxyl radical half-life is 3.563 hours. Furthermore, the substance is non-bioaccumulating (based on a QSAR estimated bioconcentration factor of 939 L/kg).

The adsorption coefficient for vinylcyclohexane determined in accordance with OECD guideline 121 is ca. 195 (log Koc = 2.29) and ca. 355 (log Koc = 2.55) in soil and sewage sludge, respectively.

Results from the Mackay level III model indicate that vinylcyclohexane is mainly distributed to air and soil (via sludge) upon release to the environment via STP effluent.
