Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- According to EU Method A. 12 with GLP.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Key result
- Remarks on result:
- not measured/tested
- Interpretation of results:
- other: Not classified (CLP Regulation EC no. 1272/2008)
- Conclusions:
- The Flammability in Contact with Water test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists (e.g. when preparing test substance solutions for testing for fish toxicity or hydrolysis). The test substance in contact with water does not develop any gas at all. Therefore also no highly flammable gases in dangerous quantities at a minimum rate of 1 liter/kg per hour are evolved.
The test substance is therefore regarded as not being "flammable in contact with water". - Executive summary:

- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric liquids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:

- Study period:
- 2005-04-21
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- According to EU method A.13 with GLP.
- Qualifier:

- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Key result
- Remarks on result:
- not measured/tested
- Interpretation of results:
- other: Not classified (CLP Regulation EC no. 1272/2008)
- Conclusions:
- The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing for various properties. Also experience from the test for auto-ignition of the test substance at elevated temperature is available. The test substance does not ignite in air at ca. 20 °C and even not at temperatures up to 300 °C. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.

- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Data waiving:
- study technically not feasible
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information
The flammability in contact with water test and also the test for pyrophoric properties were not performed experimentally. But the test substance is regarded, due to experience, neither as not being "flammable in contact with water" nor as not being pyrophoric.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified

Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the available data, the substance is not classified for flammability according to CLP Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008.
