Volumen des Pyknometers wird mit Toluol bestimmt. Anschließend wird Zinkammoniumchlorid eingewogen. Das Pyknometer wird dann mit Toluol aufgefüllt und erneut gewogen.
Um sicherzustellen, dass keine im Feststoff eingeschlossene Luft die Ergebnisse verfälscht, wurden die Pyknometer je 15 min mit UItraschall behandet. Die Pyknometer wurden im Kryostaten auf 20 °C temperiert.
