3-methoxybutan-1-ol is considered readily biodegradable on the basis of a GLP compliant, guideline study that concluded that the substance was degraded by 60% within the 10 day window and after 28 days incubation (IBACON, 2009). 3-methoxybutan-1-ol is considered to have a low potential for bioaccumulation and for adsorption based on its log Kow value of 0.002, calculated using KOWWIN (USEPA, 2008).

3-methoxybutan-1-ol is not thought to be persistent in the environment as it is readily biodegradable and is not considered likely to bioaccumulate or adsorb to sediment.
