Description of key information

Not relevant due to ready biodegradation

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex VIII, section 9.2.2.1, testing of the hydrolysis as a function of pH is not required as the substance is readily biodegradable. Available information from a literature source on a read across substance is provided; here it is stated that methylparaben is hydrolytically stable in hot and cold water. At pH values above 7, appreciable hydrolysis occurs producing p-hydroxy benzoic acid and methanol.
