Description of key information

Toxicity studies with terrestrial arthropods have not been conducted for the registered substance trichloro(hexadecyl)silane. However, good quaility chronic data from the read-across source substance trimethoxy(hexadecyl)silane (CAS No. 16415-12-6) is available for studies on soil macroorganisms, terrestrial plants, and soil microorganisms. The chronic data on soil microorganisms (NOEC = 31.6 mg/kg soil dw) was used to derive the PNEC soil. Therefore, the risk is already adequately controlled and estimated and a further test on soil arthropods is not expected to change the outcome of the hazard and risk assessment of the soil compartment. Thus, a study on the toxicity towards soil arthropods can be omitted.
