The viscosity of a liquid is the property which determines the resistance offered to a shearing
force under laminar flow conditions, e.g. resistance to slow stirring or, resistance to flow
through a capillary or narrow channel.
The viscosity of a test substance is reported in terms of its kinematic viscosity and/or
dynamic viscosity. Using a capillary viscometer, the kinematic viscosity is measured as the
product of the flow time and calibration constant of the viscometer and is reported in m2/s.
The dynamic viscosity is the product of the kinematic viscosity and the density of the liquid
and is reported in Pa.s.
