Description of key information

The assessment of irritation / corrosive properties of the substance has been made on the basis of high alkalinity (pH > 11.5) and corrosive properties of the constituents.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Respiratory irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

According to Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1 Chapter 3.2.3.1.2., a mixture is considered corrosive to skin (Skin Corrosive Category 1) if it has a pH of 11.5 or greater. Moreover, over 5% of the known constituents are classified as corrosive. Also, according to Chapter 3.2.2.4., e.g. caustic alkalis with extreme pH shall be considered as skin corrosives.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: highly corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: highly corrosive

Effects on respiratory irritation: irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification is required under Directive 67/548/EEC and under Regulation EC 1272/2008 for skin, eye and respiratory tract corrosion / irritation. Skin corrosive: pH > 11.5, alkalic constituents. Eye corrosive: pH > 11.5, alkalic constituents. Respiratory irritation: pH > 11.5.
