Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Data availability

There is no experimental study available for i-BMA. However, a value can be derived based on a QSAR using reliable data from five other substances in the category.

Discussion

A peer-reviewed analysis of the long-term test data of the lower alkyl methacrylates by Staples (2009) did not indicate significant differences in sensitivity between trophic levels. Furthermore, acute toxicity data to aquatic invertebrates are almost identical for i-BMA and n-BMA, EC50 values are 29 and 25 mg/L, respectively. The same observation can be reported for acute toxicity to algae, EC50 for i-BMA is 26 mg/L and for n-BMA 24.8 mg/L. For that reason this endpoint regarding i-BMA can be satisfied using a specific QSAR developed based on the data of the other substances. For the long-term toxicity to invertebrates (Daphnia magna) a chronic NOEC for reproduction of 2.1 mg/L (Staples, 2009) was derived.
