Sample tested:
reference mixture as specified
Remarks:
Barium nitrate : cellulose (60:40)
Parameter:
burning time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm
Result:
1.1 mm/s

The test substance could not be milled and sieved. The melting temperature of the test substance was too low for drying. Therefore, the test substance was used as delivered.

Preliminary test:

The preliminary screening test showed no propagation over the cone. Therefore, the full test was carried out.

Train test:

For the mixtures in the range of 10 to 80 % (sample : cellulose) propagation of the flame was observed.

The mixture containing 90 % sample and 10 % cellulose showed no propagation along the test train.

The three mixtures with the highest burning rate (50 %, 60 % and 70 % sample) were tested 6 times in total to determine the maximum burning rate.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the test substance burning time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm was measured to be 249 s and burning rate was established to be 0.8 (mm/s). Since the burning rate of the test substance is smaller than the burning rate of the reference substance (burning rate: 1.1 mm/s), the test substance is considered to not have oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the oxidising properties of the test substance according to EU Method A.17. The test substance could not be milled and sieved. The melting temperature of the test substance was too low for drying. Therefore, the test substance was used as delivered. The preliminary screening test showed no propagation over the cone. Therefore, the full test was carried out. The test substance / cellulose-mixture containing 10 to 90 % weight of the test substance in 10 % increments was prepared. The substance was formed into a powder train with a length of 250 mm, a height of 10 mm and a width of 20 mm. One end was ignited by a gas burner with a diameter of about 6 mm and the time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm after a reaction zone from 30 mm was measured. The test was performed also with the reference substance barium nitrate: cellulose (60”40) and once with each one out of the range of mixtures of the substance with cellulose. Under the study conditions, the test substance burning time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm was measured to be 249 s and burning rate was established to be 0.8 (mm/s). Since the burning rate of the test substance is smaller than the burning rate of the reference substance (burning rate: 1.1 mm/s), the test substance is considered to not have oxidizing properties (Kintrup, 2017).
