- Conclusions:
- The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 4.3 to 8.9 mPa.s at a shear rate from 349 to 1610 s-1.
The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.
The dynamic viscosity of nerol was determined to be:
- 8.9 mPa.s at 20°C ± 0.2°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1,
- 4.5 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1. - Executive summary:
The determination of the viscosity was performed in accordance with OECD Guideline No 114 “Viscosity of liquids” (October 2012) and with Analytical Method DRT 5230 “Determination of dynamic viscosity with a rotary viscometer Haake VT550 or Rheolab QC”.
The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 4.3 to 8.9 mPa.s at shear rates from 349 to 1610 s-1.
The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.
The dynamic viscosity of nerol was determined to be:
- 8.9 mPa.s at 20.0°C ± 0.2°C at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1,
- 4.5 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1.
Reference
Measured values at different shear rate
The results obtained at 20°C were the following:
Viscosities of the test item measured at 20°C:
Shear rate (1/s) | Viscosity (mPa.s) |
349.4 | 8.8 |
583.1 | 8.9 |
971.6 | 7.7 |
1610 | 7.5 |
The results obtained at 40°C were the following:
Viscosities of the test item at 40°C:
Shear rate (1/s) | Viscosity (mPa.s) |
349.4 | 5.1 |
583.1 | 4.5 |
971.6 | 4.3 |
1610 | 4.3 |
The viscosity was constant at all shear rates at both temperatures. The test item was thus considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

Temperature | Viscosity (1st measurement) | Viscosity (2nd measurement) | Viscosity (3rd measurement) |

40°C | 4.5 mPa.s | 4.4 mPa.s | 4.5 mPa.s |
Description of key information
The dynamic viscosity was determined with a rotational viscometer.
The substance is a Newtonian fluid. The dynamic viscosity of nerol at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1 is 8.9 mPa.s at 20°C and 4.5 mPa.s at 40°C.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Viscosity:
- 8.9 mPa · s (dynamic)
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
Additional information
Key study conducted according to OECD 114 guideline.
The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP. Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) was assigned.
A supporting study with a consistent result confirms the key study value.
