Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
September 2011
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
This study was considered as reliable with restrictions because it was not conducted under GLP and there are some lack of details in the study report.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -20 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 atm
Decomposition:
no
Sublimation:
no

After twelve hours of storage in a freezer at - 20°C the test item was still liquid.

According to Annex VII of REACH, the study does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of - 20°C. Therefore no main study was performed and the determination was terminated.

Conclusions:
No freezing point or range could be detected.
The freezing point of nerol was stated as < - 20°C.
Executive summary:

The determination of the melting point was performed in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.1 “Melting/Freezing Temperature” (May 2008) and OECD Guideline No 102 “Melting Point/Melting Range” (July 1995).

In a preliminary study, the test item was still not frozen after twelve hours of storage in a freezer at - 20°C; according to Annex VII of REACH, no main study was performed. The freezing point or range of nerol was stated as < - 20°C.

No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome. Therefore, the result of the study is considered valid.

Description of key information

In a preliminary study, the test item was still not frozen after twelve hours of storage in a freezer at - 20°C.

Therefore, according to Annex VII of REACH, no main study was performed.
The freezing point or range of nerol is < - 20°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-20 °C

Additional information

Key study conducted according to OECD 102 and EU A.1 guidelines. The result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP.

Therefore a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) was assigned.
