Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Executive summary:

The registered substance is produced, supplied and marketed in the presence of a liquid mineral oil solvent. Removal of this solvent is expected to cause a change in the equilibrium of the chemical structure of the alkaryl benzene sulfonates resulting in a degradation of the chemical structure to a structure that is not representative of the substance being placed on the market in the EU. From the compositional description and the structural formula given, however, it can be concluded that this substance is not pyrophoric (will not ignite or emit flammable gases on contact with air, damp air, or water) nor does it exhibit the property of flammability (will not easily burn when ignited or contribute to the combustion of other materials).

There are no functional groups or other structural alerts present that would support any concern that this substance should be classified as dangerous according to the criteria for evaluating flammability, which is furthermore confirmed by long term handling experience. The substance is, and has for some time, been used in high temperature environments (typically up to 300C) and is stable at these temperatures.

The study is therefore considered scientifically unjustified.
