Description of key information

A carcinogenicity study is not available and has not been performed with ditolyl ether. In the in vitro and in vivo genotoxicty studies, ditolyl ether was not mutagenic/genotoxic. Furthermore, in the available 13-week feeding study in Wistar rats, no pathological or histopathological findings were observed. For this reason, there is no indication for a neoplastic potential of ditolyl ether and the performance of a carcinogenicity study is not justified for scientific and animal welfare reasons.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the findings made in the available repeated dose oral toxicity study as well as in the in vitro and in vivo mutagenicity tests, ditolyl ether is not suspected to be carcinogenic. Therefore, no classification is required.
