Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
04 November 1998
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 404 °C
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

An exotherm reaction of the test substance occurs at a temperature of 175 °C and leads to 335 °C. After this, the temperature of the test substance was permanent over the oven temperature until the maximum temperature of 404 °C.

Conclusions:
No self ignition was registered until a temperature of 404 °C was reached.
Executive summary:

The purpose of the test was the determination of the relative self-ignition temperature according to Guideline 92/69/EEC Part A. 16. Auto-flammability (solids-determination of relative self-ignition temperature). Study conducted in compliance with GLP.

8 cm3 (4.35 g) of the substance under testisplaced in an oven at 26 °C ; the temperature/time curve relating to conditions in the centre of the sample is recorded while the temperature of the oven is increased to 400 °C at a rate of 0,5 °C/min. The temperature of the oven at which the sample temperature reaches 400 °C by self-heating is called the self-ignition temperature for the purpose of this test

An exotherm reaction of the test substance occurs at a temperature of 175 °C and leads to 335 °C. After this, the temperature of the test substance was permanent over the oven temperature until the maximum temperature of 404 °C.

No self ignition was registered until a temperature of 404 °C.

Description of key information

no self ignition was observed under the test conditions

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information
