Nonanol, branched and linear is readily biodegradable and long-term QSAR estimate aquatic invertebrate NOECs between 0.01 and 1 mg/l (21 d NOEC 0.04 -0.17 mg/l).

Therefore, the substanceis classified as Chronic Category 3 for the environment in the EU according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
