Phenyl ethyl alcohol is classified as readily biodegradable. Unilever (1994) is a ready biodegradability study following OECD guideline 301B and determined 106.3% degradation after 28 days. The hydrolysis and biodegradation in water and sediment and soil have been waived as phenyl ethyl alcohol is considered to be readily biodegradable in water in the screening test. Phenyl ethyl alcohol has a log octanol-water partition coefficient of less than 3 and is therefore considered to have low potential for bioaccumulation or adsorption to soils and sediment. This is supported by the log adsorption coefficient of 1.5 in Givaudan (2010), a GLP-compliant adsorption coefficient study following OECD guideline 121.
