Additional information

The experimental data on toxicity of 3 -aminopropan-1 -ol to aquatic microorganisms are available.

In a short-term respiration test an EC20 of > 1995 mg/L was determined, using industrial activated sludge as inoculum. Hence, the EC50 is also >1995 mg/L (OECD 209, BASF AG, 1980, rep. no.: 1051).

Additionally, the substance was tested in a single species test with Pseudomonas, conducted according to DIN 38412 -8 (BASF AG, 1987, rep. no.: 9/0789/87).

It is commonly assumed that a single species test like the Pseudomonas test (DIN 38412, part 8; ISO 10712) is more sensitive than the test using the activated sludge (OECD 209). In addition, the guidance document chapter R.7 states that studies conducted with industrial activated sludge may not be used for the derivation of a PNECstp. Therefore, the study with Pseudomonas putida was considerd to be a key study. The PNECstp was derived from the test on the growth of Pseudomonas putida, conducted according to German industrial standard test guideline DIN 38412, part 8. In this test an EC10 of 96 mg/L was determined.

Therefore, it can be concluded, that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
