Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Detailed findings for each step are provided in the experimental report.

Atmospheric pressure ranged between 99057 and 99768 Pa during the study.

The lowest measured value of the auto ignition temperature is 272°C.

The auto ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5°C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 270°C.

Executive summary:

The auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was measured according to EU A15/DIN 51794 guideline. Three main test were performed, the relevant parameters were recorded, and results ranged between 272 and 276°C. The lowest result, rounded down to 5°C, i.e. 270°C, is retained.

Description of key information

Auto-ignition temperature expected to be similar for both qualities.

No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
270 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized EC method and under GLP, is available for the crude quality. It is therefore considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data for purpose of CSA.

No literature data is available for the very major component Cineol, however, from data on the two other majors, respectively 237°C for limonene, and 255°C for alpha-pinene, it is likely that the AIT of the oil is driven by Cineol, and not by the most auto-flammable, as already shown under IU section 4.11 for flash point.

Therefore, for the rectified quality containing more cineole, the AIT is expected to be similar.

This parameter is not relevant for classification according to CLP, however the information is useful regarding potential additional fire hazard.
