Description of key information

In a differential scanning calorimetry assay a melting temperature of 230 °C, with an onset of ca. 204 °C was determined. Decomposition started at ca. 235 °C, with a peak of 249 °C.
According to 2 older handbooks, melting occurs at 270 to 277.5 °C, decomposition starts at >300 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
230 °C

Additional information

The discrepancy between the handbook data and the more recent determination by DSC might possibly be explained by a remark in Beilsteins Handbuch der Organischen Chemie, 1963, where it is stated: "Formation of high molecular condensation products on heating to 200 °C".
