Description of key information

The following data has been submitted to address the aquatic bioaccumulation endpoint:
Tsuda, T., H. Nakanishi, S. Aoki, and J. Takebayashi. (1986). Bioconcentration of butyltin compounds by round crucian carp. Toxicol. Environ. Chem. 12:137-143.
The study has been allocated a Klimisch score of 2 as the study is non-GLP, but conducted in compliance with agreed protocols with some deviations not considered to affect the scientific integrity of the study.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
2.91 dimensionless

Additional information

The bioaccumulation of DBTL was studied in carp. After an uptake period of 7 days BCFs of 30.9, 813, 138 and 53.6 were obtained in muscle, liver, kidney and vertebrae respectively. These BCFs are significantly below 2000 and indicate that the risk of bioaccumulation and subsequent biomagnification in the food chain is low.
