Persistance and biodegradation is considered to be neither necessary or relevant for iron trinitrate. As the substance is inorganic salt it will not be degraded biologically. However, it will dissociate to its constituent iron and nitrate ions in the environment. Both ions are ubiquitous in the environment at quantities far greater than that likely to arise from iron trinitrate. In addiiton, as the substance is an inorganic substance, it is not expected to have a log Kow greater than 4.5.

The substance is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction. Neither is there no evidence of chronic toxicity. Iron trinitrate can therefore be reagrded as not PBT/vPvB.
