Endpoint:
bioaccumulation in aquatic species: fish
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on log Kow <=3

Description of key information

According to Annex IX, column 2, this study does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow ≤ 3). Maleic anhydride hydrolyses rapidly (DT50 = 0.3 min), forming maleic acid. The relevant substance for evaluating bioaccumulation is therefore maleic acid with a log Kow of -1.29 at pH 2.5. Consequently, further testing on bioaccumulation is not required.
