Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No long-term test with aquatic invertebrates for Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters (CAS 85566-26-3) is required.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of EC 1907/2006 Annex IX long-term toxicity testing does not need to be conducted as the chemical safety assessment does not indicate a need for further investigations. Due to the low water solubility, the ready biodegradability and the absence of direct exposure of Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters (CAS 85566-26-3) the bioavailability is very low and an uptake is not expected. Should the substance be taken up, Fatty Acid Methyl Ester will be extensively metabolized by carboxylesterase (CaEs) enzymes, which are ubiquitous across species and have a broad specificity. Aliphatic esters, like Fatty Acid Methyl Esters, are biotransformed into fatty acids that are very similar to endogenous compounds and are rapidly used as carbon and energy sources. In conclusion, a long-term exposure for Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters (CAS 85566-26-3) is not expected.

Thus, no further long-term test with aquatic invertebrates for Fatty acids, C8-10, Me esters (CAS 85566-26-3) is required.
