No NOEC available
Daphnia magna and Leuciscus idus were found
to be the most sensitive species both revealing LC50 values >146 mg/L.
Silica is found in European rivers in mean concentrations of 7.5 mg
SiO2/L (Jorgensen et al. 1991). Therefore, the NOEC for fish in chronic
toxicity tests is expected to be comparable to the NOEC for Daphnia and
Leuciscus in the short-term tests. Further testing is not appropriate
and should be avoided due to animal welfare.
