Description of key information
In a static immobilization test daphnids were exposed to the test item for 48 hours according to guideline-conform study under GLP. The EC50 value was determined to be 20.3 mg/L.

The acute toxicity of Butandioldivinylether to the water flea Daphnia magna STRAUS was investigated in a 48-hour static test according to EEC Directive 79/831/EEC, Annex V, Part C: Methods for the determination of ecotoxicity, C2. Acute toxicity for Daphnia; Updating Nov. 1989.
The test was performed in a closed system (glass tubes sealed with gas tight Teflon caps). This study was performed in compliance with GLP Regulations (OECD). The validity criteria were fulfilled by the test.
The test substance was tested in the range of concentrations between 3,13 and 100 mg/L. The dilution factor was 2. lnstead of mortality the test criterion of the acute toxicity is immobilization of the daphnids after 48 hours of exposure which is expressed as EC (effect concentration). Those animals were considered to be immobile which were unable to swim within 15 seconds after gentle agitation of the test vessel.
The following values were determined based on nominal concentrations:
EC0(48h) = 12.5 mg/L
EC50 (48 h) = 20.3 mg/L (confidence Iimits 95% 17.9 - 23.0)
EC100 (48 h) = 50 mg/L
