Description of key information

Appearance / physical state / colour:

On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, the appearance of 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5)  was observed to be a Pale White to Reddish solid crystalline organic compound.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

The melting point range of 2, 4, 6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is 75°C - 82°C at 974.4 hPa.

Boiling point:

The boiling point of 2,4,6- trichloroaniline (CAS No.634-93-5) is greater than 240 °C at 970.3 hPa.

Density:

The density of 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS no. 634-93-5) is 0.5251 g/cm3 at 27 °C and 974.0 hPa.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry):

The particle size distribution of test substance 2, 4, 6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.

Vapour pressure:

The vapour pressure of 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is determined to be 1.9599E-8 kPa (1.47E-7 mmHg) at 25 °C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition coefficient of test substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was determined as per the HPLC method (OECD Guideline-117). The Log Pow value was determined to be 3.648± 0.007at 25°C.This value indicates that the test substance 2,4, 6- trichloroaniline is hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility for the test item 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No;634-93-5) was determined to be 67.425 mg/l at 25 °C.

Surface tension:

Based on the prediction done by ACD labs, the surface tension for chemical 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No; 634-93-5) was predicted to be 50.8 ± 3.0 dyne/cm.

Flash point:

The flash point of 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is 127°C at 972.4 hPa.

Autoflammability:

2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was considered non-flammable.

On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, the appearance of 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5)  was observed to be a Pale White to Reddish solid crystalline organic compound.

Other supporting data from reliable handbooks and authoritative databases, also stated that the substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline is observed to be white to pale purple solid Crystalline/ long needles/ fibers in appearance with aromatic odor.

Melting point/ Freezing point:

The melting point determination of test substance 2, 4, 6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The mean melting point range was found to be in the range of 75°C- 82°C at 974.4 hPa.

Other supporting data from reliable handbooks and authoritative databases, also supported the selected key study and exhibited the melting point of  2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) as 78.5°C, 73 -75 °C and 77.5 -78.5 °C respectively, closer to the selected key value.

Boiling point:

The boiling point determination of test substance2,4,6- trichloroaniline(CAS No. 634-93-5) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The boiling point was found to be greater than 240°C at 970.3 hPa.

Other supporting data from reliable handbooks and authoritative databases, also supported the selected key study and exhibited theboiling point of the test substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No.634-93-5) as 262°C at 746 mmHg.

Density:

The density of test substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was determined following OECD guideline 109 according to pycnometer method. The density of the test substance was found to be 0.5251 g /cm3 at 27 °C and 974.0 hPa.

Other supporting data from reliable handbook and authoritative database, also exhibited the density of test material 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) as 1.6807 g/cm3 at 25 °C and1.540 ± 0.06 g/cm3 at 20 °C and 760 mmHg Pressure.

Other supporting data from handbook, also calculated the vapour pressure of 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) as 0.141285 kPa at 133.85°C (Tmin) and 202.68144 kPa at 280.43°C (Tmax).

One more study from authoritative database, also estimated the vapour pressure of 2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) as 1.9599E-8 kPa (0.00444 mmHg) at 25 °C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of test chemical 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for Testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to structural similarity with the test substance. The reference substances were Phenol, Benzene, 2,3 Dichloroaniline, Bromobenzene, 1,4 Dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4, Trichlorobenzene, 2,6 Diphenylpyridine having Pow value ranging from 1.5 to 4.9.The Log Pow value was determined to be 3.648± 0.007at 25°C.

This value indicates that the test substance 2,4, 6- trichloroaniline is hydrophilic in nature.

 

Above experimental data is supported by various authoritative databases and handbooks in this the octanol water partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline is determined  to be 3.52 dimensionless.

 

From another authoritative databases the octanol water partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline is determined  to be 3.69 dimensionless.

 

Thus by considering all octanol water partition coefficient value it can be concluded that the octanol water partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance 2,4,6-trichloroaniline is in range of 3.52- 3.69 dimensionless.

On the basis of this range log Pow value it can be concluded that test chemical 2,4,6-trichloroaniline is hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility determination of test item 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No;634-93-5) was done as per the HPLC method.

The mean water solubility was determined to be 67.425 mg/l at 25 °C.

Other supporting data from authoritative databases, also supported the selected key study and exhibited the water solubility of 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No; 634-93-5) as 40 mg/L at 25 °C and 38.8 mg/L at 20 °C.

Thus from obtained values indicate that the chemical is considered to be slightly soluble in water.

Surface tension:

Based on the prediction done by ACD labs Software (v12.1.0.50375), the surface tension for chemical 2,4,6-trichloroaniline (CAS No; 634-93-5) was predicted to be 50.8 ± 3.0 dyne/cm.

Flash point:

The flash point determination of test substance 2, 4, 6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was done via closed cup method using Pensky Martin’s Flash Point Apparatus. The flash point of the test substance was determined to be 127°C at 972.4 hPa.

Hence based on obtained value the given chemical is not classified as flammable.

Autoflammability:

2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  2,4,6-Trichloroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

The pH determination of test substance 2,4,6-trichlolroaniline (CAS No. 634-93-5) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of pH meter. The pH was determined to be 5.6 at 30.5 °C.
